Automation AMC in India: What a Maintenance Contract Should Actually Cover

Most AMC disputes trace back to one thing: nobody defined what 'response' meant at signing.

Key takeaways

  • A meaningful AMC defines response time, resolution expectation and spares holding separately — 'response' alone is not a commitment to fix anything.
  • Remote diagnostics over IoT gateways resolve many logic and parameter faults before an engineer is dispatched.
  • Ankai provides two-hour on-site response for AMC customers across the Pune and Chakan belt, with regional cover in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi NCR and Bangalore.

Industrial automation is a lifecycle commitment, not a delivery. Most disputes we hear about from plants that switched vendors trace back to the same ambiguity at signing: the contract promised a response, and nobody wrote down what response meant.

Three things a contract should separate

  • Response time — how long until a qualified engineer engages, remotely or on site. This is the number most contracts state.
  • Resolution expectation — what class of fault gets fixed in what window. Frequently absent, and the source of most disagreement.
  • Spares holding — which components are stocked, by whom, and where. A four-hour response is meaningless if the drive card ships in eleven days.

Remote diagnostics come first

Where an installation includes our IoT gateways, a significant share of faults — parameter drift, logic edge cases, comms failures, sensor faults — can be diagnosed and often corrected remotely. That resolves the problem in the same hour rather than the same day, and it means the engineer who does travel arrives knowing which part to bring.

Preventive work is where AMC pays

Breakdown cover is the visible part of a contract. The part that changes the numbers is scheduled: calibration, thermal imaging on panels, connection torque checks, firmware currency, and cleaning on dust-heavy installations. Panels in foundry and ceramics environments in Rajkot and Morbi need this on a materially shorter cycle than an air-conditioned control room in Whitefield.

What should an industrial automation AMC include?

It should separately define response time, resolution expectation and spares holding. It should also specify preventive visit frequency, calibration scope, whether remote diagnostics are included, and which components are stocked against your installed base.

Do you service automation systems installed by another vendor?

Yes. We take on AMC and troubleshooting for systems we did not originally install, including SCADA migration, tag remapping, protocol faults and historian recovery. An initial site audit establishes the installed base and the spares that need holding.

What is your breakdown response time?

Two hours on site for AMC customers across Pune and Chakan. Mumbai signage networks have 24/7 cover with same-day attendance. Gujarat, Delhi NCR and Bangalore are covered next business day, with remote diagnostics starting immediately in all regions.

Send us the process, the constraints and the site. We will come back with a control philosophy and a costed scope.
